We have ants.

I've never had any sort of critter living in my house before that wasn't supposed to live here.

They give me the heebie-jeebies.

You know what the worst part is?

Everything I read tells me that ants go into dirty houses where food is left out.

I DO NOT have a dirty house! I mean, I would drink water from the toilet (if it was absolutely necessary) and eat anything that fell onto my floor.  Yep, my house it *that* kind of clean.

So why are they here (and by here, I mean they are living in my master bathroom) and what can I do to get rid of them?

Ideas? Advice?

  1. I understand about the heebie jeebies...I also totally understand about the questions about the invasion into a clean house. They are no respector of clean...they invade when they want to where they want to. Probably for water in your case...as it was in ours. Experts don't know everything. The bathroom was a favorite spot for the ants we had come a marchin' in...as was the dishwasher. We tried numerous methods on our own, but gave in and had a company come out to treat the areas outside the home as well as inside. It has been well worth the cost!

  2. (Came upon your site through The Dating Divas and am loving every post!)

If you want to go natural route, put some peppermint essential oil on cotton balls in the corners of the room. This has worked in the past for me. I agree with the above comment too, having a company come in and spray does help with peace of mind.

  3. Haha, that made me laugh.

And I've never had bugs in our house but I have heard that the peppermint oil works. You could probably also use peppermint extract because it's the smell that drives them away.

  4. We have a lot of ants here in MN. Some people spray around the outside perimeter of their homes to keep them from coming in. I don't know about the name of the product but I think its RAID.

  5. Oh no!!! I'm sure you don't have a dirty house - these things happen! I've also heard the peppermint oil thing works!

  6. Have you guys had a lot of snow or rain? Last year a couple of friends of mine got ants after a week of down pours. Someone told them that when it rains like that it drives the ants inside out of the rain. And I know how clean your house is I would and maybe have eaten off your floor :)
