Days of Play--Ooblich!

Ooblich (pronouned Ewww--blick!) was a staple of fun at our house growing up.  And the cool thing is that it provides huge amount of tactile fun at a minimal cost!

What you'll need:
Big bowl
cornstarch
water
food coloring (optional)
ziploc bags (optional)
cups, spoons, etc. (optional)

What you'll do:

  1. Put cornstarch in a bowl.
  2. Slowly add water and food coloring and mix it together with your hands.
  3. Now play!

This mixture gets very hard when squeezed yet "melts" as well.  It is delightful!

For younger children:
This is pretty messy so if you don't want your little one to get too dirty (or you don't want him or her to eat cornstarch) then you can put the ooblich in a baggies.  The results are the same.

For older children:
Allow kids to stir ooblich and pour it into cups.  Let them pour it out on cookie sheets and manipulate it.

Thanks, SD, for reminding me of this good, clean fun!
